STOP Offering Your Services for Free!
Look, I get it. You’re new, you’re excited, and you think giving away your services will somehow lead to paying clients. It won’t.
When you offer your work for free, here’s what happens:
You attract freeloaders. People who love free stuff don’t magically turn into paying customers. They turn into people who ask for more free stuff.
You train people to devalue your work. If you act like your services have no price, why would anyone else think they’re worth paying for?
You waste time you could be using to make money. You could be refining your offer, selling to real clients, or building your business, not working for exposure (which, last time I checked, doesn’t pay the bills).
Now, does that mean you should never do free work? Not necessarily. But if you do, it should be strategic… as in, for a high-value testimonial, a case study, or a direct line to referrals. Not just because you’re scared to ask for money.
So, stop treating your business like a charity. Set your prices, stand by them, and start getting paid for what you do. You’ll thank yourself later.
